Re: Question 1: Marginalization and vulnerability

This is very helpful, Crystal! Can you elaborate more on from where you hear stereotypes of vulnerability (Eg from other researchers) and how you challenge them in the research process? 1. In your experience, list any factors make a research population potentially vulnerable or marginalized? (eg pop...

This is really helpful, Crystal! Could you elaborate a bit on how or what details you may share for replication purposes, particularly if you also want/need to protect participants' or organizational identities? 2. Re: Question 2: Transparency

Thanks! These are excellent points. Could you elaborate more on how you give credit to overlooked individuals who help with data collection (and provide general examples of who these individuals may be), while also-- if necessary-- ensuring their identity is not revealed?

Re: Transparency and Day-to-Day Fieldwork

From the moderators: What should ethnographers be transparent about regarding the day-to-day conduct of their fieldwork and how can they do so in ways that safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of research interlocutors? In addition to potential human subjects concerns, what factors might limit...

Re: Limits to Transparency

From the moderators: What can ethnographers generally not share about their research process and why can they not share those things? While ethnographers/POs who study similar sites may no doubt "compare notes" in a more metaphorical sense, I believe that they would be disinclined to shar...

Re: Practicalities of Transparency

From the Moderators: What formats might be effective for researchers to share how they went about their research (e.g. appendices, prefaces, online archives, etc.)? Are there outer limits about what should be shared in published work (i.e. a point at which sharing becomes a distraction or overkill)...

Data access-- giving back to the community

I have conducted qualitative research with community-based organizations-- namely, nonprofits developed and run by sex workers in the US. To do this research, I did not simply go into the community, take what I needed, and leave; instead, I developed relationships. This meant that in exchange for th...
